Pillows!
Who doesn't LOVE pillows? Especially those that you make yourself, or that someone makes for you?
Well, recently, I took a "Sewing Machine Essentials" class at The Workroom in Toronto, Ontario. It's located in a very artistic and "hip" neighbourhood of the city called Parkdale. Lots of little shops and cafes, and cool places like The Workroom!
The Workroom is a great place where you can sew by the hour (only $7) and get lots of advice from the ladies that work there. You can even take workshops that range from learning to sew your own underwear, shopping totes, alterations and a men's tie! Isn't that amazing!?
I took a beginners sewing class because I felt that it was time for me to learn how to use my sewing machine. A few years ago, my mother and I bought a sewing machine thinking that we were fully capable of learning to use it on our own. Little did we know, this was not the case! We didn't have a clue what we were doing. Eventually, we quit after a few days and it has been sitting in our hallway closet ever since.
The sewing class took me through all the basics of sewing, and little tricks of the trade. Did you know a needle only has a life span of 6-8 hours?! You should be changing them quite frequently! While learning to use the machiene, we also made ourselves some 16" envelope pillows, and it has now become my prized possesion! It's amazing what these machiene's can do!!
Here's my creation, and I hope you have now all been inspired to pull out your grandmother's sewing machiene and make tons of pillows for all your Christmas presents this year!
